Jesus said to him, “Feed My Sheep” - John 21:17

The Lancaster/Northumberland

Interfaith Service Council

© 2010-2011 The Lancaster/Northumberland Interfaith Service Council, Inc.

We are The Lancaster/Northumberland Interfaith Service Council.  Welcome to our Web site.

The Interfaith Service Council has been serving needy families and individuals in Virginia’s Lancaster and Northumberland Counties for more than a quarter of a century, but you might not know of us or about what we do.

Or you might already know all about us and support us with your personal contributions, as do many churches of all Christian denominations in our two counties here in Virginia’s Northern Neck between the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay on the east and the Rappahannock River on the west.

For those who aren’t acquainted with us, however, please let us introduce ourselves.

The Interfaith Service Council is a non-profit, inter-denominational organization of lay volunteers dedicated to obeying Christ Jesus’ loving instruction to Simon Peter after His Crucifixion and before His Ascension to the Father.  You can find it in the Bible; in John 21:15-17.

“Feed My Sheep,” Jesus said.

This command is the cornerstone of Interfaith’s many and varied activities.

We provide needy families and individuals with furniture and other household goods; free firewood; home-delivered meals; emergency food boxes; school supplies; home repairs and wheelchair ramps; and assistance with delinquent rent and utility bills.  We work with county social services agencies and clergy to verify requests for help.

Interfaith depends on contributions from its member churches, individuals, foundations and civic groups.  We are a 501(c)(3) organization, which means contributions to us are deductible for federal income tax purposes.

Currently we disseminate more than $86,000 a year through our assistance programs, with a very, very small part of our budget used for administrative costs.

Congregation representatives from our member churches make up the Council, which meets at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday evening of each month, usually at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kilmarnock.  The Council’s Board of Directors also holds monthly meetings.

We cordially invite you to join us at our meetings.  Please feel free to use the information.

Should you have questions, please contact me or another Interfaith volunteer listed here.

Thank you very much.
