Jesus said to him, “Feed My Sheep” - John 21:17

Interfaith Service Council

You might already know all about us, of course – and you might even support us with your personal contributions, as do many churches of all Christian denominations in the Northern Neck’s Lancaster and Northumberland Counties.  Churches currently taking part in the Interfaith Service Council number 44.

However, youngsters and newcomers to your pews might not have met us yet – so please permit us to take this opportunity to “shake hands” and “say hello.”

We’re The Lancaster/Northumberland Interfaith Service Council, a non-profit, inter-denominational organization of lay volunteers founded more than 25 years ago and dedicated to obeying Christ Jesus’ instruction to his Disciples after His Crucifixion and Resurrection, and before His Ascension to the Father.

“Feed My Sheep”, Jesus told his Disciple, Simon Peter.  Jesus’ loving instruction – the guiding motto of The Interfaith Service Council – has been passed on to all of us believers in The Holy Bible.  It’s in John 21:15-17, printed in full above.

Among the Interfaith Service Council’s many volunteer services, it provides needy families and individuals in Lancaster and Northumberland Counties with furniture and other household goods; free firewood; home-delivered meals; emergency food boxes; school supplies; home repairs and wheelchair ramps; air conditioners; and heat monitors.  Needs are verified by local social service agencies and, in the case of furniture and household items, by an Interfaith contract screener.

The Internal Revenue Service has designated the Interfaith Service Council as a 501(c)(3) organization.  That means contributions to us are tax deductible.

Congregation representatives make up the Council.  They meet at 7:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month, usually at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Kilmarnock.  The Council’s Board of Directors also holds monthly meetings.
